Liberia Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh is urging President Joseph N. Boakai and the Unity Party to prioritize access to justice for Liberia across the country, while expressing frustration over limited budgetary allotment to the judiciary.
Speaking during the formal opening of the October Term of Court of the Supreme Court, Monday, October 14, 2024 she said that without funding to the judiciary, the government will fail on its objective of achieving peace, justice and security.
According to her, the infrastructure challenges of the judiciary is not only to the temple of justice but to also to seven of the judicial circuits and almost all of the magisterial court within the country, while curving the government commitment to supporting and sustaining the rule of law in Liberia.
‘’ without sufficient funding, the aspiration of the three branches of government will be unable to achieve their desire objective of maintain peace and upholding the rule of law in Liberia. How do you expect judicial official to perform to their best. The need for judicial complexes in all the political subdivisions of the country should be prioritize. This lead is important to the constitution guarantee of access to justice for everyone within and out of the territory boundary of Liberia’’ Justice Yuoh concluded.
Responding to the Chief Justice on behalf President Boakai and the government of Liberia, Justice Minister, and Dean of the Cabinet, Cllr. Osward Tweh said that President Boakai.
According to him, President Boakai takes seriously the concern raise by the judiciary and it’s the president’s hope to work with the bench in addressing that concern, adding that the president is committed a strong judiciary which is the bedrock of
‘’ I extend to you greeting facilitation and good wishes on behalf of the president of Liberia, President Joseph Boakai and the Executive Branch of government as you begin you deliberation on the October Term of court. The President could have loved to be here but he has traveled. However, he has asked me, to extend his regret by not being able to be with you. The president assured this bench that his administration will do everything in its power in assisting the bench in the administration of justice including providing adequate resources.
