MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberian economist and political commentator Samuel Jackson has appealed to Criminal Court “A” Judge Onesimus Barwon for permission to travel abroad for specialized medical treatment amid concerns about his health.
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Jackson was reportedly seen struggling to walk on the grounds of the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, raising concerns about his physical condition.
Jackson is seeking judicial authorization to leave Liberia for medical attention but remains barred from traveling abroad as his legal proceedings continue.
The economist is facing charges in connection with the death of his wife, South African attorney Ntombi Khumalo Jackson, who was found dead in their bedroom in Monrovia in March 2026.
According to reports, Jackson told authorities that he found his wife semi-conscious in their bedroom after returning home from a television talk show engagement.
Khumalo Jackson, who was born in Gauteng, South Africa, was the founder of NK Attorneys. Her death drew widespread public attention, particularly after graphic images allegedly showing bruises and other injuries on her body circulated on social media.
Reports indicated that she suffered severe head injuries and required emergency brain surgery.
Jackson’s request for medical leave comes as the case continues before the courts. It remains unclear whether Judge Barwon has ruled on the request.
The court’s decision will determine whether Jackson is permitted to travel abroad for the requested medical treatment while the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
