Bond Efforts Stall for NDMA’s Acheivego Doe and Others as Families, Opposition Push for Release

Efforts to secure the release of Acheivego Doe, Director of Communications at the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and three others remained unsuccessful as of Thursday, June 26, 2025, despite the release of several senior officials earlier that day.

Doe and his colleagues, who were arrested alongside former high-ranking government officials, including former Foreign Affairs Minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, remain detained at the Monrovia Central Prison as legal and procedural hurdles stalled their bond arrangements.

The group is being held in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement of public funds and improprieties linked to the nationwide rice distribution program under the previous administration.

While Kemayah and three others were released on Human Surety Bonds, efforts to replicate the process for Doe and his co-accused were reportedly delayed due to technicalities related to the bond filing and approval process.

Family members, legal representatives, and key figures within the opposition community expressed growing frustration over the stalled release and have vowed to intensify efforts on Friday to secure the detainees’ freedom.

The continued detention has sparked concerns among civil society actors and opposition leaders, who argue that the process appears selective and politically motivated, despite government insistence that the arrests are grounded in legal due process.

Court officials hinted that further documentation and verification may be required before approval is granted.

The case has garnered attention amid heightened political tensions, with growing public scrutiny over the manner in which the current administration is handling corruption allegations tied to former officials.

Legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming days, with defense lawyers pushing for expedited hearings and equitable treatment for all those accused.
