(As the Senate Committee on Defense Intelligence and Veteran Affairs recommends the cancellation to plenary pending that august body decision)
The Senate Committee on Defense Intelligence and Veteran Affairs has called for the cancellation of the Contract between the government of Liberia and ConTec Global on several counts of grass Violations.
It can be recalled that Lofa County Senator Momo Cyrus wrote a communication to the Senate plenary calling for an investigation into the contract signed between the government of Liberia and ConTec Global on the printing of three hundred and fifty thousand resident(350,000) permits for Aliens for five years, after which the Senate committee on Defense Intelligence and Veteran Affairs was instructed to investigate and report to plenary for onward decision.
Reading the committee’s report, the chairman of the committee senator Momo Cyrus cited several violations, including the company’s refusal to operate at the office of the Liberia Immigration Services rather than operating at their 9 Street office something he said violates the contract.
The Lofa County Senator disclosed that ConTec Global cannot deliver the services signed in the contract using the insurance of a very poor-quality residence permit as a case study in supporting the statement of lack of ability.
He Forder noted that the contract between the government of Liberia and ConTec Global is over forty million United States dollars (40USD) which according to law should be rectified by the Liberian Senate.
Senator Cyrus who represents the people of Lofa with a background in security disclosed that the contract has lots of security risks for the country.
“This company is sharing a 60/40 revenue that hasn’t been legislated and did not consider the Liberia Revenue Authority, so every income received from this company the L.R.A has not benefited”, the Lofa County Senator who sits as chair on the Senate committee on Defense Intelligence and Veteran Affairs lamented.
According to the committee’s report, the Public Procurement Concession Commission on March 24, 2024, called for the cancellation of this contract because of the lack of performance.
“Analysing our Alien data this contract cannot survive, if it survives meaning ConTec Global will be here for over thirty years, the reason being our immigration traffic is around sixteen-seventeen thousand annually, and the contract States that if the three hundred and fifty thousand (350,000) resident permits is not obtained the company have a right for extension therefore the company might be here for the next thirty years” he added, while describing it as wickedness.
