LNBA Condemns Attack On Judge Roosevelt Z Willie

The Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) has steongly condemend of Judge Roosevelt Z Willie the resident Circuit Judge of Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice, which occurred on June 25,2025 around 9:00pm.

In a statement by clllr. Bornor M.  Vormah, the leadership of the LNBA,  represented by its president, denounced the in cident as a serious threat to judicial independence Reports indicate that a group of unidentified individuals, armed with machetes and sticks and riding motorcycles attempted to forcefully enter the Judge’s residence.

Their efforts were thworted only by the swift response of armed police officers. That this attacks marks the third reported incident  targeting Judge Willie

The  LNBA expressed concern over similor the threats faced by other judges, including attempts at intrusion and anonymous  messages designed to intimidate  them and obstruct their judicial duties.

The LNBA categorizes these violent acts as a  form of gangsterism that has no place in a civilized and democratic society.

 

Such incidents represent a  direct assault on the independence of the judiciary and undermine public confidence in the rule of law.

Judge must be allowed to perterm their duties free from intimidation, threats or any form of external influence,  the safety and  independence of the judiciary are crucial to maintaining the  integrity of Liberia’s justice system.

In light of these events, the (LNBA calls on the Ministry of Justice and all relevant state security institutions to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetration to justice.

Additionally,  the Bar Urges the Liberian National Police to provide adequate security and a permanent police presence at the residence of Judge Roosevelt Z Willie and at this homes of all judges facing similor threats.

These measures are essential to prevent  further attempts that may endanger judicial officers and their families.
