Former Speaker Fonati Koffa, three other lawmakers released from Jail…On US$440, 000 Property Bond

The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has temporarily released from further detention four lawmakers who were jailed for three days since last Friday, June 6, 2025.

Defendants Dixon W. Seboe, Abu B. Kamara, J. Fonati Koffa and Jacob C. Deblue were set free on a US$ 440,000.00 property bond on Monday, June 9, 2025 after the court accepted and approved the property bond proffered by the defendants.

Madam Jonda Janet Koffa & Marjan Mona Koffa are the owners of the properties amounting to US$440, 000 (four hundred forty thousand United States Dollars) offered as Security for said Caminal Appearance Bond that released the defendants from jail.

The condition of the bond is that the Defendants Dixon W. Seboe, Abu B. Kamara, J. Founti Koffa and Jacob C. Debbie of the City of Monrovia, will appear before the Monrovia City Court, Temple of Justice, as and when required, until the case may be removed, to answer to the charges of arson, Criminal mischief criminal conspiracy, criminal solicitation, criminal attempt to commit murder, illegal possession of firearm and theft of property, and will remain under the jurisdiction of the said Court until duly discharged, and if convicted of said charge, will surrender ourselves unto the custody of the Sheriff of said Court to undergo the full sentence of the law.

The property bond pf the defendants was received by Daniel Y. McGILL Clerk of Court on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 11:05 AM and approved by the stipendary magistrate.

Magistrate L. Ben Barco upon approving the property bond ordered the sheriffs of the court to proceed at the Monrovia Central Prison and mandate the authority of the prison facility to immediately and unconditionally released the defendants.

Several high profile politicians to include former President George Weah, Senator Nathaniel McGill, Representatives Musa Hassan Bility, Frank Saah  Foko, forfmer Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, Finda Bondoo and Seku Kalasco Dammaruo were all at the Monrovia City Court to secure the release of the defendants.

Cllr. Jonathan Massaquoi one of the lead lawyers of the defendants, told the media that having been released by the court will appear on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 for preliminary examination at the court.

Cllr. Massaquoi explained that it was difficult to get the Property Bond to secure the temporary release of the four lawmakers on last week Friday because of the procedure and time required to secure the bond.

He said normally it takes three days for a property bond to be varified and approved by the court.
